Laura’s Legacy

Laura Ivey Tea Cosy Fund
Laura Ivey, known affectionately to everyone at The Bell Tower as Aunty Laura, was a beloved figure in Perth’s ringing community for more than 60 years. When she wasn’t ringing, Aunty Laura devoted her time to raising significant funds for children’s charities. This extraordinary contribution that was formally recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia.
Aunty Laura had a lifelong passion for sharing the joy of bell ringing with visitors, especially children. She loved giving young people the opportunity to learn about the history of the bells and to experience the skills involved.
Through her beautiful handmade tea cosies, Laura raised funds with the intention of making a meaningful contribution to the community. To honour her memory, our staff and bell ringers have come together to knit and crochet handmade goods, continuing her spirit of giving. These hand-crafted items are available for purchase in our Gift Shop, with proceeds supporting Laura’s Legacy. Laura’s fundraising now continues as a legacy in her honour. What better tribute than using the funds to educate and inspire future generations about bells and bell ringing!
Laura’s Legacy provides four free class excursion tickets each year for Primary schools with low SEI:
- Two tickets for schools in the North Metro area
- Two tickets for schools in the South Metro area
(Available for Primary Years 4, 5, or 6)
The Bell Tower Experience is a 1-hour tour that includes an interactive bell-chiming demonstration. During this demonstration, students will learn to chime the 300-year-old bells originally from the St Martin-in-the-Fields church in London. Each student will also receive a souvenir bell-chiming certificate to commemorate their experience. Following the chiming demonstration, students will take part in a walking tour of the Bell Tower. They will see the famous bells up close, including the impressive 6,500kg ANZAC Bell. The tour concludes on the Level 6 Observation Deck, where students can enjoy the views and listen to the coin-operated Carillon. The Bell Tower is an exciting place to visit, and we know the children will have a wonderful time.
