Christine Layton is a long-time friend of the Bell Tower and Saturday Breakfast Presenter at ABC Radio Perth.
Christine was the first radio announcer to broadcast live from the Bell Tower on the opening day of Elizabeth Quay (in 38 degree heat, no less).
Christine Layton’s first encounter with a microphone was co-hosting Camboon Primary School’s Year 1 assembly dressed as her then idol, Donatello from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. From there, her love for story-telling and performance grew.
After studying jazz clarinet at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Christine took a detour to Main Roads’ Traffic Operations Centre. As Public Affairs Coordinator she’d join Russell Woolf on ABC Perth Radio Drive to report on the roads which often lead to non-road related conversations.
Christine went on to pursue radio full-time, spending three years as Drive announcer for Perth community station 98five.
Wooed by the beauty and history of the south coast, she moved to the ABC in Albany where she presented regional Breakfast and Mornings, statewide Afternoons and Drive whilst also producing a number of national programs. A keen lindy hop dancer and teacher, she recently returned to Perth with her husband to give birth to daughter Bonnie, currently her #1 listener and bell-ringer in waiting.
