The Bell Tower Brass School Bell Offer

In 2013 when planning your school visit, you may want to consider a special offer that The Bell Tower is making available until 30 June.

Throughout history, the ringing of a bell has been the signal to students that it is time to start the school day or to change classes during the school day.  It was also the longed for sound that ended the day.    Many interpretations of this signal have been used during time, but none as loved, and remembered as the brass hand bell.

Students vied for the opportunity to be the ‘bell ringer’ and both revered and loathed by their classmates, wandered about ringing out their warning with the gusto of a town crier.

Over time the brass hand bell has mostly been replaced by electronically operated bell sounds, series of chimes or sirens.

For a limited time until June 2013, The Bell Tower is offering schools the opportunity to book a special excursion package that includes an individually engraved brass school hand bell.  It could be used daily, for special occasions or simply be kept proudly on display as a lasting memento of the schools visit to the Tower.

Due to popular demand, the school brass bell can once again be purchased from the Tower.  There will be two options to purchase and each includes the bell being individually engraved with the school’s name.

Option 1: School Excursion
This package includes admission for 30 children, teachers, aids and an individually engraved brass school bell.   The visit can be enhanced by a fascinating live bell ringing demonstration and the chance for students to chime a bell but please note it is necessary to book a minimum of three weeks in advance.

The Bell Tower collection and location  link to curriculum learning areas of English, Mathematics, Society and the Environment, Arts, Technology and Enterprise, Health and Physical Education and LOTE.

Comprehensive teacher’s guides have been developed especially for middle and upper primary, to include a section on cross-curricular activities with pre- and post-excursion ideas, exhibit questions, as well as work-sheet on subjects relating to the Tower.   Teachers Guides can be downloaded from this website.

COST: $180.00

Option 2: Brass School Bell Offer
Purchase personally engraved brass school bell only.

A bell or bell sound has long been used to signal to students that it is time to start class, that it is time for a break in learning, or the end of the day.   In some schools it may still take the form of a physical hand bell, or even hanging bell, but mostly now an electronic sound is used.

The brass hand bell engraved with the school’s name brings back a wonderful tradition from days gone by and provides the school with a lasting memento.

COST: $50.00
