You can experience Bell Handling demonstrations with one of our volunteer Ringers on the following days.

Wednesday 11:30am - 12:30pm

Please note that days and times are subject to change without notice. If you are planning a visit to hear our ancient bells or experience bell handling, please contact us in advance to reconfirm our ringing times.

The simplest way of ringing is to ring the bells in order down the scale ('rounds'), and this can be done with any number from 3 to 16.

The order of the bells can be varied by a conductor calling out changes in order, for instance 1-2-3-4-5-6 can be changed to 2-1-3-4-5-6, and then to 2-1-4-3-5-6, and so on.

The next step is to ring a 'method', whereby the order of the bells changes at each pull, according to set mathematical principles.
